The SNOMED Clinical Terms Browser is used across all enabled areas of Rio. The process is the same whether you are coding a Condition, an Allergy, an Appointment Activity, or an Assessment Finding.
đNote: SNOMED CT must be enabled for the relevant area and your role must have access before you can record a term. If you cannot see the SNOMED icon on a screen, contact your System Administrator.
Record a SNOMED clinical term
Navigate to the relevant screen (e.g. Conditions, Allergies, Appointment outcome, Assessment form) for the patient.
If SNOMED is enabled for this area, you will see either a blue SCT icon (no term recorded yet) or a green plus (+) button.
Click the green Add button (+) or the blue SCT icon to open the SNOMED Clinical Terms Browser.
The SNOMED Clinical Terms Browser opens in a pop up window. If a default search value has been configured for this area, the search field may already be pre-populated.
If required, refine your search by selecting one of the following search methods from the browser:
All words any order: Default; finds terms containing all entered words in any order.
Any word any order: Finds terms containing any of the entered words.
Exact match: Finds terms containing all words in the same order.
Starts with: Finds terms starting with the entered words.
Ends with: Finds terms ending with the entered words.
Use phonetic: Can be combined with any other option; returns terms that sound like the entered text.
Enter text into the search field.
Matching terms are listed in real time as you type. If too many results are returned, a message will appear, refine your search to reduce matches, or click the here link to display all results.
Select a term from the pick list, or click the search icon for a comprehensive search.
Results are displayed in the SNOMED Concept Hierarchy column in a tree format. Use the + and â symbols to expand or collapse the hierarchy.
Navigate the hierarchy until you find the correct term, then click the radio button to select it.
Optionally, add a comment in the Comment field (free text, up to 1,000 characters) to provide additional clinical context for the coded term.
Click Add to Client record.
The browser window closes and the selected term is displayed on the form. The term is not yet saved to the patient record, it will be saved when the form is saved.
Click Save on the main form.
The form and associated SNOMED clinical term are saved. The SCT icon changes from blue to orange, confirming the term has been recorded.
đ¤Tip: For Conditions and Assessment Forms, you can add more than one SNOMED term to the same record. After adding the first term, click the green + again to add another. For Allergies (Substance and Reaction), only one term per field is permitted.
