The Clinical Portal displays a snapshot of the patient's information at the moment you open the screen. If another member of staff makes changes such as adding a new alert, updating a risk assessment, or recording a care plan action those changes will not appear on your screen automatically.
Understanding this behaviour is important for safe clinical practice. This article explains when and how to refresh the portal.
⚠️Important: The Clinical Portal does not update in real time. A new alert added by a colleague will not appear on your screen until you refresh. Always refresh before making a clinical decision.
Refresh the patient's Clinical Portal
To reload the patient's Clinical Portal and see the latest information, click the patient's name in the Client Banner at the top of the screen. This reloads the portal and displays the most current data.
When to refresh
You should refresh the Clinical Portal in the following situations:
Before making any clinical decision.
After being notified by a colleague that a new alert or risk update has been added.
At the start of each clinical contact with a patient.
🤓Tip: Make refreshing the portal a routine part of every clinical contact. It only takes a single click and ensures you are always working with the most current information.
Refresh the User Portal
If you use the User Portal to review your caseload, this also displays a snapshot from when you first opened it. To see the latest information, re-select the User Portal menu item.
You should refresh the User Portal:
At the start of each shift.
Before reviewing your caseload.
