The Consultation Screen is an enhanced version of the standard Appointment Outcome screen in Rio. When enabled by your organisation, it replaces the standard outcome screen and lets you record your appointment outcome, a progress note, and an assessment form all in one place, without navigating between separate screens.
đNote: The Consultation Screen is disabled by default. It must be enabled by your System Administrator before it appears. If you still see the standard Appointment Outcome screen, contact your System Administrator.
What changes for clinicians
Without the Consultation Screen, recording an outcome and a progress note requires several separate navigation steps:
Record the appointment outcome on the standard Outcome screen.
Save and return to the Clinical Portal or diary.
Navigate separately to Progress Notes and add a new note.
Navigate separately to Assessment Forms if needed.
With the Consultation Screen, this becomes a single unified step:
Open the Consultation Screen from the appointment.
Record the outcome, progress note, and assessment, all on one screen.
Save once and return to the diary.
The progress note is formally linked to the appointment outcome, and is viewable from both the saved outcome screen and the client's Progress Notes screen.
The three tabs
The Consultation Screen has three tabs, each serving a different purpose:
Outcome Information. Record the standard appointment outcome (attendance, consultation medium, actual duration, and outcome code). This tab is identical to the standard outcome screen.
Progress Note. Enter a clinical progress note directly within the outcome workflow. The note is saved simultaneously with the outcome and linked to the appointment.
Assessments. Access and complete assessment forms from within the outcome screen. Forms open in a pop-up window and are saved independently.
đNote: Neither a progress note nor an assessment is mandatory. You can record the outcome only, the outcome and a progress note, the outcome and an assessment, or all three depending on your clinical need.
Screen terminology
The labels displayed on the Consultation Screen differ slightly depending on your organisation's system type. This guide uses Mental Health Trust terminology throughout. If your organisation uses the Primary Care Trust system type, use the equivalent labels from the table below:
