Rio uses two separate records to capture patients who have gone absent without leave, depending on whether the patient is detained under the Mental Health Act:
AWOL: For patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act.
Absent: For patients who are not detained.
The process for recording each is similar, but the records are classified differently for reporting purposes. Risk Category is a mandatory field on both screens.
Record AWOL (detained patients)
⚠️Important: The AWOL option is only available for patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act. If the patient is not detained, use the Absent option instead.
Access the Bed Layout View and click the bed of the patient who is AWOL.
Select Leave, then click AWOL. The Mental Health Client AWOL screen is displayed.
Enter the date and time the patient was noted as absent without leave in the AWOL Date & Time field.
Select a Risk Category for the absence from the drop down list. This is a mandatory field.
Enter any additional comments in the Other Information text box if required.
Click Save.
The AWOL record is saved. The bed image on the Bed Layout View changes to indicate the patient is AWOL.
Record Absent (non-detained patients)
Access the Bed Layout View and click the bed of the patient who is absent.
Select Leave, then click Absent. The Mental Health Client Absent screen is displayed.
Enter the Absent Date & Time, select a Risk Category, and add any comments.
Click Save.
The absence is recorded. The bed image changes to indicate the patient is absent.
