Rio EPR allows you to monitor RTT pathways directly from the waiting list screens, without needing to navigate to a separate area of the system. Switching to the RTT pathway view gives you a combined view of waiting list and RTT status for all patients on a service.
Accessing the RTT pathway view
Open the waiting list screen for the relevant service.
Select the RTT Pathway View option to switch from the standard waiting list view to the RTT pathway view.
đNote: The RTT Pathway View option is only available for services that have an RTT pathway configured. If you cannot see this option, check with your system administrator.
What the RTT pathway view shows
The RTT pathway view displays the following information for each patient:
RTT code and pathway name.
Pathway start date.
Expected end date (based on the configured pathway duration).
Days remaining on the pathway.
Warning or breach status.
Identifying patients approaching breach
Patients who are approaching their RTT breach date are highlighted in the RTT pathway view. The warning indicator appears when the number of days remaining falls within the Warning To Breach period configured on the pathway.
When you see a warning indicator:
Review the patient's waiting list entry and check whether an appointment has been offered.
Escalate to the relevant team or service lead if action is needed.
Ensure that any appointment outcomes are recorded promptly in Rio so that the RTT clock is stopped correctly.
â ď¸Important: The RTT clock only stops when the correct outcome is recorded against the appointment or referral in Rio. If outcomes are not recorded, patients will continue to show as active on the pathway even after treatment has been delivered.
Recommended monitoring approach
To stay on top of RTT performance for your service:
Review the RTT pathway view regularly, at least weekly for high volume services.
Prioritise patients with a warning indicator or a breach status.
Ensure all staff recording appointment outcomes are aware of the importance of timely data entry.
Work with your system administrator if you notice patients are not being removed from the pathway after treatment.
đ¤Tip: If patients are not being automatically removed from the waiting list after an appointment, check that the clinic where the appointment was booked is correctly mapped to the waiting list. Speak to your system administrator if you need help with this.
