Start by searching for the exact term description in the SNOMED online browser. This helps confirm the correct terminology and concept details.
Simple example
Search Term: Latex
When you search for Latex, the browser returns Latex (Substance).
Click Concept Details to view more information.
If you enter the full term description Latex (Substance) and use the default search filter All words, any order, the correct result appears.
Complex example
Search Term: Referral to pulmonary rehabilitation
SNOMED searches do not recognize words under 3 characters e.g., to.
When using the default filter All words, any order, the search changes to Referral pulmonary rehabilitation, which does not exist.
Solution:
Change the filter to Exact match or use Ends with and enter pulmonary rehabilitation.
This will return the correct concept.
Check reference set restrictions
If results are still missing, verify if access is restricted to certain subsets:
Click Edit under the search filters.
